LYDIA SCHELLEKENS

°1936 – 2022

Lydia Schellekens (° 1936 – 2022). Begins her religious formation in 1959 with the Sisters “De Jacht” in Heverlee and subsequently studied medicine at KU Leuven and tropical medicine in London. Departs for India in 1968 where she works as a doctor in preventive medicine at the hospital of Trudayakulam. She starts a new mission post and a medical center in Thannirpalli in 1972 for the benefit of the “poorest of the poor”. Is then assigned to the hospital in Dindigul from where she coordinates medical care between 3 medical centers. Moves to Bangalore in 1995 from where she coordinates medical training to prepare young religious for their mission among the poor people. Returns to Belgium in 2006 and passes away in Heverlee in 2022.
