PAUL SCHELLEKENS

Paul Schellekens is a renowned architect and former lecturer. After his studies at the Sint-Victorinstituut and the National Higher Institute for Architecture and Urban Planning (NHIBS) in Antwerp, where he won the prestigious Glaverbel Prize (1962) and the Prix de Rome (1966).

From 1963 to 1986, he worked together with his brother-in-law Carli Vanhout, with whom he developed a unique brutalist design language. Their work included social housing, villas, and iconic projects such as the cultural center de Warande in Turnhout. From 1986 onwards, Schellekens further developed his career as an independent architect. In addition to his practice, from 1970 to 2000, he inspired generations of architecture students as a lecturer and professor at the Higher Institute of Architecture in Antwerp.
